Homeschooling Women's Health

Three weeks ago I wrote about what we're doing for homeschooling this year. I'm happy to report that everything is going well.

However, the CyberEd classes through Homeschool Buyers Co-op, which we chose for the core of our science this year, are only just now available. We couldn't sit around doing no science for three weeks while we waited for the deal to complete; we went off and explored some other things.

One of my friends had recommended Our Bodies Ourselves as a reference book to have around the house. We've been using it to study women's health the last few weeks. I love that I have open relationships with my children - it's wonderful when we are able to read together and stop to discuss things at will. I can state that this book is very comprehensive.

In the name of full disclosure, the above book is liberal. I also have an Associate relationship with Amazon.com, which means that if you click on my link then purchase I will get a very tiny amount of $. So far I'm proud to disclose that I've earned a generous $1.80 in referral fees during 2008. Oh boy! This could get me excited! If only I were allowed to purchase my own stuff under the assoiciate agreement it might have been worthwhile already :-)

Hi MC, thanks for visiting. I found you through our shared interest in women's health. After you enter an interest in your profile you can click on it and see other folks out there in the blogoshpere who share your interest. Since I blogged today on women's health I went off and visited a lot of other people who are interested in that. I also like to hike, which is why I left you a comment because you'd been blogging about hiking. So, no, I don't know you, at least not yet, but I'm always happy to meet new people and share a conversation :-)

I got that book years ago and found it very helpful. I assume they've updated it since then. I should probably get another copy, and I usually do order through Amazon, so hopefully I'll be able to add to your vast wealth. :)

You asked about moonflowers - as far as I know they only come in white, but I bought a seed packet from Lowe's, so a specialty nursery might have different varieties if they are available. I also have lots of morning glories in assorted colors. This way I get flowers day and night.

Ok, it wasn't you who asked that question. So sorry. I haven't tried fall crops before, but I may next year. Hopefully yours will do well, and you can let me know!

Hi Janet, welcome back! So far my fall seedlings are growing well. We had a couple of good days of rain so I'm not having to water any more either - I think I only watered about 4 or 5 times in the 2 weeks since I planted. Everything is showing now, including tiny onion plants. It's cooler than usual this year so I'll just need to keep an eye on the temps. I did purchase a sheet, one of those things that lets most of the light through but also protects against frost, to cover the patch with. I can use that if it looks like temps are getting too low.

I'd certainly appreciate the few odd extra cents if you want to shop at Amazon through one of my links :-) Of course if you're a book addict then you're even more welcome!

Hi alison,

I'm another curious women's health blogger you pinged. I answered your comment on my blog, but decided to come find out about your blog. I love it, especially the Douglas Adams references.

On topic with this post, you've probably heard of it, but just in case you haven't, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is an excellent resource. The author is Toni Weschler.

Hi Bek, thanks for visiting. I've not heard of the book you're recommending. I'll have to see if I can get it from the library and check it out.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading here and I hope you come back to visit :-)
